Conley Bottom Resort is a place where you can experience a dream vacation at Lake Cumberland. It is Lake Cumberland’s most accessible marina (just a short drive from Hwy. 90 in Monticello, KY). Conley Bottom is a full service marina with luxurious houseboat rentals, pontoon rentals, and new personal water craft (PWC) and ski boat fleets for 2010. This is a family oriented marina with owners Tony Sloan and Charlie Piercy as the helmsmen and visionaries of the tremendous potential. They offer a great marina with friendly service, and exceptional surroundings to create the vacation of a lifetime. If you have never experienced this side of the lake, may I suggest that you rent one of their luxury houseboats, set sail, and explore the lake? You can choose from their twelve person luxury houseboat to the family cruiser that sleeps six to eight comfortably. Top off your water fun with a new PWC or ski boat, try your hand at wakeboarding, knee boarding, or rent a large float at the Ship’s Store. Bring your friends and family and come on down to experience this wide body of clean water, water slides, waterfalls and the lovely coves hugging the rugged shoreline. Tie up your houseboat, pontoon, or boat at one of the coves and build a campfire on the beach. Enjoy a wienie or marshmallow roast, swim, have a picnic, read a book, or just stroll along the water’s edge and admire the fossils and geological wonders that have washed up on shore. Conley Bottom has magnificent lake views from their lodging and camping area. Their campsite area is sprawling and offers 150 RV and tent campsites that are lakeside with full hook-ups, water, electric, picnic table and grill. They have amenities such as a bathhouse, playground, volleyball net, and a walkway to the marina. Conley Bottom also offers all types of small gear rentals and a modern, well lit, well stocked Ship’s Store with camping supplies, ice, propane, fishing license, live bait, groceries, clothing, nautical sportswear, t-shirts, hats, and souvenirs. One of my favorites is the new café float, a wonderful covered dining area. There are hundreds of flowers along the walkways - like a floating botanical garden. It is just beautiful! You can admire the flowers and panoramic views from the new café float or Conley Bottom’s Lighthouse Café which offers lakeside dining in a nautical, breezy café area. The Lighthouse Café offers delicious meals - mouthwatering burgers, salads, sandwiches, chicken salad, appetizers and more with southern hospitality. Come try their newest addition - swirled, soft serve ice cream in fun flavors like tropical orange, bubblegum, peanut butter, butter pecan, Blue Goo™, chocolate swirl, strawberry and my favorite - raspberry. Dine in or enjoy their new breezeway. Relax and enjoy the sights, sounds, and cool breezes at Conley Bottom. Some of the other amenities are free wireless internet, boat storage, covered slips, pay at the pump gas dispensers, and an excellent and eager staff to assist your every need. From the easy loading - where the staff will assist you, 24/7 security, and their convenient Ship’s Store, Conley Bottom’s aim is to please. They offer many events throughout the year and pride themselves on the family atmosphere and the clean, modern facilities. Grider Hill Marina and Resort is a gem on Lake Cumberland that has been serving families for over sixty years. In 1950, visionary Bruce Sloan wanted to make Grider Hill “more than a fishing camp”. This businessman in the stone and timber trade and sportsman during his free time, turned Grider Hill into a true masterpiece. With elements of architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s style and philosophy, and stone and timber from his own land make it a masterpiece even today. At present, Jim Figuerado is at the helm of Grider Hill and Rick Mercador, who grew up at the lake, is the general manager with over 13 years of firsthand experience. Grider Hill is truly a full service resort, with over 900 docks and 311 acres of luscious property. There are plenty of new additions and renovations taking place to accommodate the many families that frequent Grider Hill Marina and Resort each year. The new party deck with covered, open air seating and amazing lake views is accessible to the Indian Creek Lodge and Restaurant - which has been moved to the dock area allowing for true lakeside dining! The party deck will feature entertainment, music, and sometimes dancing several times each month. The restaurant offers a sports bar type menu and on the weekends they love to serve up their grilled steaks, hand battered fish, wonderful homemade sides, desserts, and of course, daily specials. Their docks have also been recently updated following the tornado which came through a few years ago. The welcoming green roofs blend in nicely with the contours of the hills that hug the shoreline of Lake Cumberland. The docks have new decking and cushiony white bumpers for boat safety. Lodging is abundant at Grider Hill Marina and Resort with 36 rooms at the Sassafras and the Stone Lodge, or if you prefer camping, there are RV hookups and primitive campsites - all within a stone’s throw of the lake. Grider Hill is known for their houseboat rental fleet as well. You can rent a 50’ – 73’ houseboat easily. Check their rates and specials on-line, as they fill up very quickly. Wireless internet is now available throughout the dock area for those that must have wireless access during their vacation. Grider Hill welcomes you for dinner, a romantic getaway, or the family vacation of a lifetime. Check out Grider Hill Marina and Resort’s website at

Indian Hills Resort Alligator II Marina and KOA Campground is one of the friendliest marinas on Lake Cumberland. General Manager James Flatt considers himself a “good ole’ country boy” and has been at the marina since 1981. He loves taking care of his customers and friends. James and Manager Michelle Maldonado “know” their customers and believe offering personal service is the key to their success. This full-service, year round marina offers over 350 boat slips with houseboat, pontoon and cabin rentals. Their KOA Campground offers over 150 sites with full hook-ups, and 16 primitive sites for lakeside camping. This campground is one of the nicest in Kentucky with many amenities, including a beautiful pool, tennis courts, a basketball goal, volleyball nets, and an amphitheatre on a hillside with wonderful acoustics - where the annual bluegrass festival is enjoyed by all. However, the Gator II Grill is where it is all happening. Folks from all over the lake, and visitors from the region come to have a “Big James Burger” - a fresh, hand patted, all beef, “big” burger loaded with sautéed onions, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and all the fixings to give you a delicious, mouth watering experience. Topped off with some Cajun seasoned waffle fries, this is a real treat! Leave room for dessert! The cooks at the Gator II Grill bake! Oh yeah, coconut, chocolate, butterscotch, and peanut butter pies. You can have a slice or buy the whole pie to take back to your cabin or boat. Many pre-order pies before they come down to insure availability. Some visitors even order pies to take back home with them to enjoy after their vacation here has ended. Let me tell you, the butterscotch pie is out of this world. Not being from the south, “Annie and family” had to taste test the homemade selection of good ole’ country pies. Hands down, scoring a ten, the butterscotch pie was delicious and a family favorite! For those of you who love scrumptious, mouth watering, oozing with caramel, grand caramel rolls will LOVE the butterscotch pie. The Gator II Grill offers chocolate gravy, homemade biscuits and gravy, French toast, and fried apples on their breakfast buffet every weekend, along with a full breakfast menu. Like pizza? This is the place. You can get made-to-order pizza with all the toppings. You can also call ahead and they will have your pizza ready for you to take back to your boat or cabin. They offer six different flavors of soft serve Flavor Burst ice cream that tops off any meal or is a great treat when you come in off of the lake. They love to have monthly specials and events. Their Shrimp Boil and Prime Rib and Chicken Special are real hits. Come have a taste at the Gator II Grill and see why people come back again and again for their great food, friendly service, and fun atmosphere. They can be visited at www.indianhillsresort.com or you can call them at 270-866-6616 or toll free at 877-363-9911.

Jamestown Resort & Marina (JRM) is a beautiful marina sequestered within the very heart of picturesque Lake Cumberland between Jamestown and Russell Springs, KY. JRM offers over 800 boat slips, and houseboat and pontoon rentals including the Grande Dame - the First Lady Houseboats that sleep 12 and the Deluxe Houseboats that sleep 8. What a great way to spend a relaxing time on the lake with family and friends. Lake Cumberland, a recreational paradise, is why boat name brand “Danzi” has been coming to JRM for many years now to host their Midwest Gathering with people coming from all over the Midwest, and some from New York. This event and get together is a great prelude to the Memorial Day Weekend, when thousands of families and visitors descend upon Lake Cumberland for the beginning of summer fun, relaxation and enjoyment. JRM offers convenient shuttle service from the parking lot and a water taxi that will help you load your belongings onto your boat or houseboat. What caught my eye was their vegetarian dishes like their veggie wrap and veggie burger. This is a great place for vegetarians or those seeking something light. They also serve a full breakfast seven days a week, with such favorites as biscuits and gravy, delicious omelets, and my kids’ favorites - pancakes and French toast. Come on down to JRM and have a meal, take a walk around, and enjoy the beautiful lake views. Jamestown Marina and Resort can be visited online at www.jamestown-marina.com. You can also call them at

Lake Cumberland State Dock is the marina that “rocks” – with fun that is. It is packed full with entertainment and events throughout the year. The granddaddy of them all, State Dock has custom luxury houseboats that are built exclusively for comfort and entertainment featuring private staterooms, GPS, Sirius radio, satellite TV, and a modern, fully equipped kitchen with state of the art appliances. Safety is paramount at State Dock and before you set out on the pristine waters of Lake Cumberland, the State Dock crew will raise your comfort level by giving you a complete set of instructions on how to operate your vessel. Houseboating is one of the grandest vacations for families or couples seeking a private getaway. Tying up in one of the numerous coves on Lake Cumberland can be so relaxing and memorable – a floating paradise! State Dock has upgraded their boat slips over the last few years and offer very spacious slip areas. Some are built with entertainment patios that offer outside room at the slip area for gathering with friends. Some even have custom built kitchen areas for cooking meals and lounging at boat side. This is a unique platform to enjoy the wonders of boat living and is a great way to meet your neighbors. For many of the boat slip customers and houseboat owners, boat living is a way of life and many stay at State Dock all summer or on the weekends. This is their marina home, filled with all the amenities, entertainment (if wanted), and a friendly, hospitable atmosphere. Mr. Bill Jasper, President of State Dock is very proud of the neighborly environment and is welcomed by the boat slip owners as he takes his daily strolls or rides down the dock on his bicycle. Boat life at State Dock is wonderful with the welcoming waves and friendly conversations. There are many services at State Dock; including valet car service and water taxi to take you and your belongings to your boat, an unbelievable Ship Store with the largest selection of Sperry shoes and summer boat clothing that I have seen at any marina, a fitness center, brand new slip customer restrooms and shower facilities, entertainment patio for live bands, karaoke, flat screen TV’s showing the daily sports events, and Chub’s Dockside Grill. There is entertainment nearly every weekend and Chub’s offers lunch and dinner with some of my favorites not found anywhere in the region – “Original Kronos Gyro” sandwiches! Yum! These are delicious and I had to top mine off with dessert by trying their amazing funnel cake fries. Chub’s menu offers a very nice selection of appetizers, including everybody’s favorites - chicken tenders, cheesy fries, sweet potato fries, and JUMBO chicken wings. They also offer a nice selection of salads, sandwiches, and cheeseburgers. The State Dock offers more than just houseboat rentals and has a full fleet of pontoon boats, ski boats, and even kayaks. Come experience and maximize your fun at State Dock and have a one-of-a-kind vacation. Visit the State Dock website for more information, www.statedock.com or call toll-free, 1-888-STATE-DOCK.

Lee’s Ford Resort Marina is a beautiful marina on Lake Cumberland loaded with history. Back during the Civil War, the Lee’s Ford area was called the Upper Ford – and the site where a lengthy battle took place in early December 1861. The battle ended abruptly with the Confederates successfully fending off Union troops. Years later, before the lake was impounded by the Corps of Engineers to create a water supply for the region, the road leading to Somerset ran through the rich land owned by the Lee family. The Lee family farm was the only place to cross over (ford) the creek prior to the lake formation; hence the name “Lee’s Ford” was established. Today, Lee’s Ford is one of the largest marinas on the lake offering over 1,000 boats slips, seasonal cottages, pontoon and ski boat rentals, and have the recreational PWC’s for rent. Lee’s Ford has an excellent restaurant called the “Harbor Restaurant & Tavern.” This restaurant has a panoramic view of the harbor. Diners delight in the views, atmosphere and delicious food. The expansive menu is outstanding. So much so, the restaurant was recently named as one of the “101 Must Places to Eat In Kentucky” by Southern Living Magazine. Some of the favorites include the famous hand breaded grouper sandwich and the Portobello mushroom sandwich. Harbor Restaurant grills an awesome steak! They use USDA certified Angus, mid-western grain fed beef that is aged for 21 days to give it a very tender and flavorful savor. Appetizers are a favorite on the menu. Those include the grouper fingers, southern fired banana peppers and the Portobello mushroom fries. The Burckhard boys really enjoyed the hand breaded chicken tenders! Blake devoured a delicious all beef hamburger – putting a huge smile on his face. Harbor Restaurant and Tavern offers homemade desserts including a deep dish apple pie, decadent brownie cake with hot fudge and ice cream and a delicious good ole southern blackberry cobbler served warm with vanilla ice cream. They serve all their drinks in the popular and handy Lee’s Ford Marina plastic tumblers. Beverages served include their delicious Harbor Iced Tea served in these souvenir cups that many house boaters, boaters and campers use to serve refreshing drinks all summer. There is a great ambience at the Harbor Restaurant either in the tavern area or in the dining area. Expansive outside patio decks allow for casual dining, weddings, private parties and special events. The views are outstanding and a perfect backdrop for any gathering. Lee’s Ford is a family marina with lots of activities all year long. They love to celebrate different holidays with their favorite being Christmas in July, where a lot of boaters decorate for Christmas and have a parade showing off their talents. They also have a fun, ghostly Halloween party where many of the boat owners participate. There is plenty of activity at the tavern, with their flat screen TV’s throughout, even in the individual booths, telecasting all major sporting events. The tavern area boasts of an old antique bar that was salvaged from the Old West. Legend has it that “Jesse James” and “Billy the Kid” sat at the bar. The floors are original. The atmosphere and decoration are very nautical and quite comfortable. Lee’s Ford has an excellent ships store, including popular souvenir items, great gifts including Vera Bradley purses, handbags, tote bags, eyeglass cases and many more summer items from which to choose. Lee’s Ford is very kid friendly. They have a couple of kid friendly playgrounds, tennis courts and they celebrate Kid’s Day with face painting and many other activities. Lee’s Ford is conveniently located about four miles from town. It is an excellent place to vacation, day trip or eat at “one of the favorite restaurants in Kentucky” as written about in Southern Living Magazine. Lee’s Ford is truly a story about the south that reflects on the war, growth and development in Southern Central Kentucky. Come see why so many families have made Lee’s Ford their vacation destination of choice for so many generations! Lee’s Ford can be visited online at www.LeesFordMarina.com or call them toll free at 877-533-7367 or locally at 606-636-6426. Happy Summer! |
